Biography
“I pursued the practice of law because I believe in assisting people in making informed decisions about matters that shape their lives in many ways.”
Joseph is an experienced litigator and, when necessary, has appeared before the Supreme Court of British Columbia to argue for his clients on numerous occasions. Most often though, his pragmatic approach to successfully settling disputes is achieved with his strong listening and negotiating skills.
Joseph focuses his practice on family law, construction and commercial litigation, including builders’ lien disputes.
His family law experience is extensive and includes all types of matters from separation agreements, finalizing a divorce, division of assets and child custody issues. He brings sensitivity to these matters, but he concentrates on delivering results for his clients.
On commercial and construction disputes, Joseph is equally interested in cost-effective methods for settling disputes so that the business entity can return to focusing on its core competency. His experience in settling matters through mediation is invaluable.
He also advises clients on immigration, employment, estate, and human rights matters.
Joseph was called to the Philippine Bar in 1996 and to the British Columbia Bar in 2004. Joseph obtained his Master of Laws degree from the University of British Columbia in 1999. He was a recipient of the BC Law Foundation Fellowship.
Joseph regularly volunteers with Access Pro Bono and as a resource speaker for non-profit organizations. He also volunteers at a newly opened pro bono clinic catering specifically to temporary foreign workers.
Joseph has lived in Europe, Asia, and North America and speaks fluent German, Swiss German, and Filipino. He is also conversant in French. As such, Joseph thrives in practicing law in B.C.’s diverse and multicultural environment.
In his spare time, Joseph skis and hikes with his son, assembles dollhouses and hosts mini tea parties with his daughter, and critiques films he enjoys watching with his wife.
